Through the Past Brightly
This is a small catalogue of the work we’ve done at Clare Ultimo Inc from the beginning until 2020 when I was forced by the Covid shutdown to start something else. (more about that later)
The story of Ultimo Inc spans over 30 years and it wouldn’t ever be complete without including the many brilliant designers, assistants, clients, visitors and friends who added their ideas and energy; making our Union Square NY Studio such a cool place to be. Behind many of these projects are wonderful and even funny stories that I plan to tell in the future. The full story of the Studio, including these stories, will be created and featured online as a video and book. When completed, the link will appear here.
Ultimo Inc was known for Green and Socially Responsible work decades before it went mainstream. We worked with many Non-Profits and Institutions throughout our entire history and brought recycled materials and socially responsible values to Corporate America in as many ways as possible, “educating” clients way before it was “fashionable” to do so. The goal was to get clients to understand the importance of these issues in Communication Design.
After all these years, I see the body of our work as examples of successful client projects and relationships and while they were created long ago, they hold up as inventive and cohesive design. Since the emergency shutdown, I have been doing design consultation, working with freelancers on a variety of projects that are still in progress, and starting my new endeavor “Holy Rolling Press” to be launched by. 2024. My second passion is being with young people, and I have been teaching Media and Design at Hunter College and Borough of Manhattan Community College. •
